I began playing guitar at the age of 16 with a number of bands. In every band I’ve done both singing and guitar even if not as the lead singer. I’ve personally attended over 30 Korn concerts in my life and have probably spent more money than I care to share on going out to shows dreaming of being that guy on the stage someday. The music I listen to and play can seem very morbid and unhinged at times but it’s with good reason. The musicians I listen to share their sorrow and expose themselves to the world through music. I understand that, and use their stories as motivation to carry on when times get tough. If they are still here after pushing through life to find the light at the end then I must push. Sadly not all of my music idols make it out. I have made it out and I’m in the best place I have ever been in my life, so when you see the dreary lyrics, understand they are tribulations of the past. I want my lyrics and music to be something that pushes people through their hard times.

I began my musical career in middle school after borrowing the Ozzy Osbourne/Randy Rhoads Tribute album from my Dad’s C.D. collection.  Upon hearing the crowd roar and the transition from O Fortuna into Randy’s opening riff I experienced what is known to psychologists as frisson, or, in layman’s terms, the blissful but unexplainable feeling you get when encountering a visual or auditory stimuli that is particularly appealing.  Frisson is the feeling that makes the hair on your arms stand up (a process known as piloerection for the nerds and people who like to make puns) when you hear the chorus of your favorite song, or see your favorite orchestra or rock band live.  My younger self had no idea what I was experiencing, but I knew that I wanted to make music that would give others this feeling.  I spent the next ten years learning music theory and studying various forms of composition and arrangement so that I could play with other musicians, despite being mostly tone deaf.  In my journey I’ve discovered that the best musicians are those who have developed their own unique voices on their instruments, which is what I strive to do every day.  A musician’s voice on their instrument should be as unique and as easily recognizable as their actual voice.  I currently play with the South Orange Symphony and teach several classes on music theory, technical guitar development and composition.  I exclusively use Dean RC7 Guitars, Agile Acoustic Guitars, Blackstar Amplification and Fractal Audio effects units.

My musical taste is eclectic but usually ends up in heavy metal or rock for the most part. I started playing bass initially as a big fan of Rush but my list of favorite bass players has grown as well – Tim Commerford, Flea, Les Claypool and way more.

For equipment, over the years I have found myself using less and less gear. For my basses, I have been using 5 strings way more and my favorite bass right now is the Ibanez SR305. I also have a Dean acoustic 5-string and for my 4 string basses, one is a active-pickup, long scale Tokai bass and the other is a solid-wood version Steinberger. I use all of those with either my iRig for my Macbook Pro or with my outboard gear – a compressor, midiVerb, Trace Elliot Elf amp, Carvin cabinet with a 15in speaker.
