Traumfanger is a band based on the foundation of three music types, industrial German, gothic rock, and melodic Scandinavian metal. Some of the main band influences touch on each one of these foundations. German industrial bands like Rammstein and Eisbrecher have sharp heavy rhythms on guitars that are accompanied by a number of synthesizers and dark bass tracks. Bands like Korn Static X and The Birthday Massacre influence us with their American gothic sounds, very similar to the German industrial. The Scandinavian melodic bands like In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and Amon Amarth help us to bring Viking heritage into the lyrics along with some of the most unique and original keyboard sounds.
Combining these elements bring an atmospheric, aggressive and at times demented sound we call Traumfanger. At the end of the day we want the catchy hooks and melodic ambiance of our sound to help you sink into your dark candle lit room and bring you places you are too scared to show the world.
Embrace My Disaster is a collection of music i’ve created in over a decade of playing, that all have stories of hopeless times. In March of 2020 We found ourselves unable to play live music with the spread of Corona Virus. In this time of quarantine music ideas and recording were what helped us through this void in our lives, and gave birth to a brand new project.
Traumfanger translated to Dream Catcher is the representation of what protects us from the evil that tries to enter our mind. It is said that dream catchers collect our nightmares through the night and release them safely away over the daytime and allow the good thoughts to enter our mind as we sleep. Traumfanger does the opposite and plants evil intentions in your head as you sleep, the album is these nightmares breaking though.
We ask that you don’t fight them but learn to embrace the disaster.
I began playing guitar at the age of 16 with a number of bands. In every band I’ve done both singing and guitar even if not as the lead singer. I’ve personally attended over 30 Korn concerts in my life and have probably spent more money than I care to share on going out to shows dreaming of being that guy on the stage someday. The music I listen to and play can seem very morbid and unhinged at times but it’s with good reason. The musicians I listen to share their sorrow and expose themselves to the world through music. I understand that, and use their stories as motivation to carry on when times get tough. If they are still here after pushing through life to find the light at the end then I must push. Sadly not all of my music idols make it out. I have made it out and I’m in the best place I have ever been in my life, so when you see the dreary lyrics, understand they are tribulations of the past. I want my lyrics and music to be something that pushes people through their hard times.
